Call for Papers - Academic Track, 24th XBRL International Conference, Abu Dhabi, March 20-22, 2012

The academic community has been involved in the XBRL initiative since the inception of the standard. Academics have contributed to the development of the standard and to study of its implementation, adoption and to the study of a variety of technical and socio-technical aspects of XBRL. Areas studied by academics include taxonomy quality, assurance, adoption, future directions, enterprise systems integration, use to improve governance and decision making in the information value chain amongst others. The academic track at the 24th XBRL International Conference organized by XBRL International provides a platform for academics from around the world to present their established research projects and new research ideas. The academic track allows academics to receive feedback from the professional XBRL community and, in turn, inform the broader XBRL community.

Papers and extended abstracts are sought for the academic track. Papers are welcome on any aspect of XBRL technology, adoption or application. Outlines of proposed research projects and early stage research are particularly welcome. Proposals should be submitted to the track chairs, Professor Glen Gray (glen.gray@csun.edu) or Professor Michael Alles (alles@business.rutgers.edu) by January 31, 2012.

The United Arab Emirates is a premiere business travel destination and attendees will have the opportunity not only to network with the leading XBRL practitioners and regulators, but also to enjoy the unique attractions of this Persian Gulf city which is one of the richest and fastest growing nations in the world.

In addition to informative sessions on assurance, integrated reporting and academic research, XBRL24 will feature a two-day, multi-part hands-on implementation workshop covering critical topics such as:

  • Taxonomy creation
  • Instance document creation and the use of tagging tools
  • Analytics tools
  • Business rules
  • Validation of inline XBRL and more

There will also be a taxonomy summit covering all of the details needed to design, create and maintain taxonomies, as well as detailed examinations of existing taxonomies from around the world including GAPP and IFRS.
